Envisioning the Song of Songs: A Poetic and Artistic Exploration with Arielle Stein

  • Adas Yoshuron Synagogue Community Room (map)

How does eroticism help humans connect? Come explore this question through the Song of Songs—(Shir haShirim in Hebrew). This visual beit midrash (literally, house of learning, in which one engages in study) will feature conversation, text study, and drawing as we look at select verses, poetry, and works of visual art inspired by this lush biblical text. We'll also create our own art connected to the verses.

Our instructor, Arielle Stein, is a Center for Small Town Jewish Life rabbinical apprentice. A student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, Arielle is creating a graphic novel interpretation of the Song of Songs as her thesis.

The learning session will be followed by Havdalah and a delicious dinner of soup, salad, and fresh bread. Join us for this opportunity to study and interact with a unique text. RSVP: programming@adasyoshuron.org.
